Residenzgalerie Salzburg (Residence Gallery Salzburg)

Salzburg: Art is lived and breathed in this town - and this at every corner. However, rarely this intensely like in the Residenzgalerie (residence gallery). Here the visitors marvel at the painting collection of the town Salzburg, which has an enormous value and comprises many art works. The paintings of artists from the different eras are exhibited in the residence gallery. The painters' works date back to the 15th century, however, the residence gallery also comprises paintings from the 19th century. The marvellous and baroque atmosphere, which the building emanates, fits perfectly to the exhibited paintings – the emphasis of the collection is on paintings from the 17th and 18th century. Especially painters from the Netherlands are in the public eye of the residence gallery, but also artists from Italy, France and Austria are strongly represented here. However, the visitors of the gallery do not only see works from the past here. Once in a while special exhibitions, which also show contemporary art, take place – a successful contrast to the standard programme of the house.

Normally the gallery's opening hours are Tuesday till Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Visitors, who have a Salzburg-Card, are lucky: Due to that card they have one admission free.

The personnel of the Salzburg Hotel Stadtkrug can tell you where to get this card and which other opportunities you will have with it in Salzburg. As this hotel has become a real meeting point for art- and culture interested guests in the past years. The guests can not only enjoy the best service as well as cosy and tidy rooms in the hotel – the personnel also perfectly inform them about the highlights of the urban cultural life. Mr. Stotz, who works at the reception desk, proves to be a real expert in doing so. In a friendly and patient way he makes sure that each guest has “his/her” individual cultural experience in Salzburg. One of the Stadtkrug's other advantages is without any doubt its central location. With the Stadtkrug as starting point, almost all of the town's places of interest can be reached within a few minutes by foot. The house is located in the Linzergasse, directly at the foot of the Kapuzinerberg. That means: pulsing life in the ancient centre in front of the house, quietness and nature behind it. In addition to that the wonderful roof garden, which already makes the travel to the hotel worth the while. Many artists, who have participated in the Salzburg festival, have already spent an inspiring time in this stress-free ambience. Regular customers know: everyone who has ever sat down here, has wished to stay forever. This feel-good atmosphere in the Hotel Stadtkrug is made perfect by the fantastic cuisine and a wine list full of good wines. An ideal location.
