Cathedral of Salzburg

Lean your head back, open your eyes wide and look upwards in awe – a visit to the probably most significant sacred building of the town Salzburg, the cathedral, is a unique experience each time. It can be reached from the Hotel Stadtkrug in 15 minutes by foot and the walk is worth it: The cathedral of Salzburg is an impressive monumental structure from the early baroque era. Its beautifully designed facade and the huge dome are especially imposing. The cathedral is history in form of stones and displays the power of the archbishops of Salzburg, who have always been independent. The cathedral had to endure many bitter fates. Several fires often completely destroyed the building, but it was always rebuilt – each time even bigger and even more beautiful. Even when an aircraft bomb had destroyed the dome and a part of the cancel in 1944, the cathedral was afterwards completed restored. In 1959 the building was finally consecrated again during a festive ceremony. The impressive building also inspired Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who worked here as court organist and concert master, to compose numerous undying works of sacred music.

By the way the guests of the Hotel Stadtkrug appreciate the quick and uncomplicated bookings in the hotels for dates on which concerts in the cathedral take place. The hotel personnel are also well informed about events in the cathedral. Additionally they can always give the guests worthwhile tips about where and when interesting events take place in Salzburg. That is not all: Visitors, who have booked a room in the hotel, also find out at the reception desk which trips by foot, car, bus or train are worthwhile. However, some nice places are already located very close to the Hotel Stadtkrug Salzburg: The Kapuzinerberg, whose foot is directly behind the hotel, is an oasis in the town and always worth a trip. Here the guests only have to walk for a few minutes to flee from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. This is one of the many advantages which make guests of the Stadtkrug book the hotel in the Linzergasse again and again: the mixture between directly participating in the colourful and turbulent town life on the one hand and the opportunity to also enjoy quietness and recreation on the other hand.

By the way: persons who really want to engage in soul-searching and take some time for that, can also fulfil their expectations in the cathedral. The building is also an oasis in the middle of the town.
